REVIEW OF 'ORGANIC ALCHEMY'
BY HEIDI FOSNER OF VICTORY NEWS
"Good is a bad word to use in describing anything. It’s too
general. But Organic Alchemy was conceived in goodness. To paraphrase
the words of its creators, Alex Kash and Bethany Dalton-Kash, this music
comes from love to promote healing. Good intentions don’t necessarily
make for good music, but Kash’s versatile vocals and 12 string guitar
playing do. They are terrific and keep the power of love theme from becoming
monotonous. There is no gloom and doom here, but there is a lot of interesting
and varied music. “Easy To Love,” made me think of George
Thoroughgood. “Magical Thing,” brought back memories of Kenny
Loggins and “Comfort Zone,” co- written by Dalton-Kash, had
me thinking of Barry White – stylistically, not vocally. Dalton-
Kash also co-wrote “Organic Alchemy” and “Everything
Is One.” “Cool Seven,” well, it’s cool! Organic
Alchemy is an enjoyable life and love affirming CD. Kash’s many
years of experience playing with different bands, and his 10 years as
a solo performer, add up to some very worthy stuff. Organic Alchemy is
as good for you as tofu served by an experienced cook who knows how to
spice it up. Kash has recorded 6 CDs to date. You can check out his website
at www.alexkash.com". (Heidi Fosner)

REVIEW OF 'ORGANIC ALCHEMY
BY MICHAEL DEVLIN OF MUSIC MATTERS REVIEW (WWW.MMREVIEW.COM)
Alex Kash—Organic Alchemy, 2006, Emotive Music
"As is usual for Kash, it’s just him, a 12-string guitar and
a bunch of nicely written, generally positive songs in a variety of styles.
Kash’s voice is pleasing in a James Taylor-ish way and his guitar
work is excellent, establishing moods without being flashy. (Come to think
of it, that’s James Taylorish too!)".
REVIEW OF 'FLORIDA HEAT'
FROM MUSIC MATTERS REVIEW (MMREVIEW.COM)
Florida Heat is an album of voice and 12-string guitar with an occasional
blast of harmonica. Alex Kash’s voice sounds a bit like James Taylor
when he is singing softly and his guitar is capable of laying down a wide
range of rhythms and moods. The songs are interesting and everything is
done with the understated taste of a man who has spent a long time in
the music business, working in various capacities on other people’s
projects. A pleasant sound with much to appreciate when you listen a few
times. —Michael Devlin
REVIEW OF "FLORIDA HEAT"
BY ZOE MONTANA (OF RADIO ACOUSTIC)
"alex kash with "florida heat"- not that i'm influenced
by the title at all, now that i too am living in Florida. i am looking
forward to my first heat wave in this state.. along with hurricane season..
but if it makes for such great songwriting as this delightful husband
and wife songwriting team i'm calling "the kash machine" - then
bring on the heat!'"
REVIEW OF FLORIDA HEAT BY
SONYA ELIJAH OF MODERNSKIRTS.COM
Alex Kash delivers a little taste of heaven with his acoustic CD Florida
Heat. The lead-off track begins with a weird harmonica riff but is soon
followed with a nice acoustic groove and some cool lyrics. With the vivid
imagery in the self-titled single, Kash puts you directly in the glare
of the Sunshine State.
“Kickin’ Back on Borrowed Time” is a fun, upbeat song
with a rocking acoustic feel that almost puts you in the mind of “My
Boogie Shoes.” In this song Kash sings “my mind’s in
my computer/my job is on the line/but I’m just kickin’/back
on borrowed time.” Other songs are just good, clean fun songs. “Just
a Little Bit of Soul” has a nice acoustic groove. It would be remiss
for Kash, living in Florida, not to have any songs dealing with hurricanes.
Sure enough, Florida’s pride and plague gets a shout-out in “Hurricane
Storm.”
“Unwinding” once again showcases Kash’s uncanny knack
for storytelling, though the vocals are a little too loud for their own
good. Finally, on “Where the Light Shines,” we actually get
some harmony, which sounds refreshing and quite nice. You can tell Kash
sure loves his home-state when he sings “Let go of the darkness
and let the light of Florida come in.” “It’s Hot”
is a clear stand-out song on Florida Heat. This acoustic soul/blues hybrid
is hilarious yet soulful at the same time. He has a little fun with lyrics
like “How much perseverance have you got / The heat on a hot, sunny
day.” On “Love Lives Here,” Kash remembers a lost love
and the emotion is tangible as he sings “There’s something
‘bout her eyes.” The harmony in this song is lower than the
melody, which makes the quietly sensitive tune even more disarming. Though
some of the transitions on Florida Heat could have been developed with
more well thought out progressions, Kash’s album is a strong collection
of straightforward acoustic guitar rock with engaging lyrics that tell
vivid and sweetly emotional stories. (Self-Released)

REVIEW OF 'FLORIDA HEAT'
BY C. NATHAN COYLE OF RAMBLES.NET
"When Alex Kash moved to southern Florida, he was asked over and
over again what his impressions were of the area. As the ultimate answer
to that question, Kash created this compilation ablum, Florida Heat.
The term "compilation" takes on a stylistic meaning as well,
as his songs are reminiscent of popular singer-songwriters. The harmonica
and musical pace of "The Real You" has a bit of a Billy Joel
feel (think of a South Florida "Piano Man"). The mellow pace
of the title track, "Florida Heat," has a mellow mood and vocal
pacing not unlike a James Taylor piece. The easygoing ballad "Gone
Fishin'" could easily be mistaken by some parrotheads as a Jimmy
Buffet tune. Kash also adds some regional cultural seasoning to some of
the songs, notably the Calypso folk taste to "Mango Season."
While the style of Kash's music has familiar and comfortable elements,
the method of music-making is rather intriguing. Kash employs a tricky
form of veiled simplicity in his music. Outside of two songs using additional
vocals, the bulk of the album contains just Kash using his voice (no overdubs),
a 12-string acoustic guitar and an occasional harmonica. Until reading
that in the CD jacket notes, it wasn't an easily discernable situation.
(Think of it as a musical form of those 3-D puzzles that were popular
a decade or so ago. Once you know what to look for, it becomes obvious
thereafter.) Kash does a wonderful presentation that seems to be multi-faceted
when in reality he's using an intentionally limited musical palette.
Kash's vocal approach is particularly peculiar, because at times he doesn't
stay in a comfortable, manageable range. Especially evident in "Love
Lives There" and "Only Tonight," Kash pushes the upper
limits of his vocal range, to the point that he sounds like he's straining/struggling
to hit the notes. It's not an unsettling experience, though, because the
straining effect actually accentuates the songs' inherent emotional meaning/intent.
Whether this effect is intentional or not, it's perfectly suited to the
mood of those songs.
And although some songs take on a more noticeable influence, that's not
to say that Kash doesn't have his own style. There are plenty of songs
that highlight Kash's versatility in approach and performance. "Hurricane
Storm" takes a more frantic pace compared to "Just a Little
Bit of Soul" and "Kicking Back on Borrowed Time," which
showcase Kash's more mellow blues edge. "Where the Light Shines"
and "Unwinding" have a light rock feel that showcase Kash's
complete package of talented sound.
Actually, one could make that claim to the entirety Florida Heat; is is
just that: a complete package of talented sound. So, kick back and take
a mental trip to southern Florida with Alex Kash. (Plus, you can experience
the Florida Heat without that awful humidity.)"
REVIEW OF 'FLORIDA HEAT'
BY PETER MASSEY
Peter Massey says of the Florida Heat recording: 'Inside the cover of
the album is a note from Alex Kash that reads: 'When I first arrived in
South Florida, in interviews and conversation, people always asked me
what my impressions of Florida were. This compilation album of 13 songs
is my way of answering that question.' Alex sings in a very expressive
almost pop style, with a smooth laid back feel, with just Kash singing
the 12 songs he has written, accompanied strumming on his acoustic 12
string guitar and mouth organ. He put me in mind of Labie Sifrie, and
Jose Feliciano, so if you are a fan of these, you might want to lend an
ear to Alex Kash.'
REVIEW OF "MY VOICES",
BY PHILLIP JOYCE: "The simple review of this album is that it is
not normal.Anywhere you are expecting to make comparisons, you will fail,
because the music only truly defines itself, and nothing else. So, I won't
bother trying to make comparisons here, but, I will tell you that you
will hear some extraodinary vocals on this CD from a person who is clearly
adept in the recording studio. There is a lengthy song called, "Thunderbeing"
in which he even attempts the call of a raven, and extraodinary background
vocals that make you swear he has hired Motown or Jamaican artists, when
in fact, it is himself. You will be delighted to listen to this CDover
and over, only to realize you hear something new each time. It may be
one of your most listened to CDs."
REVIEW OF "MY VOICES"
BY NICHOLAS COLE:
"Mellow music with great timing and provocative lyrics. Combine excellent
timing with a gentle, mellow sound and you have the parameters of 'My
Voices'. It is spiritual and easy to listen to at the same time. If you
can control your fascination with the music, listen well to the words.
It's worth it."
"Fans cash in
as their favorite West Coast guitarist shares his music and songs in South
Florida. San Francisco's Alex Kash delights Lake Worth crowds who appreciate
his blend of guitar, blues, and folk music."-Lake Worth Forum, February
27, 2007
"I heard him playing the same week I decided
to buy the restaurant. He was absolutely phenomenal. (Picture) someone that
you hear playing an acoustic guitar who just does every single song perfectly...Mr.
Kash currently performs at the resturant on Wednesday and Sunday nights--and
hs garnered a huge sesponse from local residents. Everybody who hears him
once comes back to hear him again--he's just so good. His range of styles
is phenomenal. He's very versatile, and he's producing very lively nights,
where he's got everybody clapping and dancing. If it's a more (laid-back)
crowd in the afternoon, he's got them more (relaxed)."
